In the 2008 presidential election, he became the first African american to be the president of United states of america n January 20, 2009, by defeating the Republican nominee John McCain. In April 2011, he announced that he would be running for re-election in 2012, and on November 6, 2012 he defeated Republican nominee Mitt Romney to win a second term.
